Ah yes, Rubbishdale. A rip-off of David Lynch's 1990-91 TV series, Twin Peaks, with the Archie characters.
They should have made Riverdale a sitcom. At least then it would be more faithful to the source material (Archie comics).

Yeah, it is.
You could remove all the Archie stuff and still have the same show. Why they felt they had to tie this into Archie comics baffles me.

There was no need for a murder mistery. Cheryl could simply never have a twin brother. And Miss Grundy does'nt need to rape anyone, she could be portrayed simply as an aromantic asexual character who just wants to teach. (I'm roughly a Panromantic Asexual and I think that Nat's also in the aroace spectrum) You can make a TV show for teens even without murder and rape in it. Just make it an average sitcom with some drama but no actual sexual or gorey scenes in it.
But making teenage stuff dramatic is very popular. Even Doctor Who was made overdramatic when it was "sequel-ed" in the 2000's, even though the original Doctor Who is mostly a lighthearted series. Heck, a lot of sims stories I see around end up becoming overdramatic.
And Archie is played by an half-Samoan guy, too, although the character is still mostly\fully of Irish descent in the show.

Exactly. If you want to make an Archie show, at least keep it close to the source material.
You want to make a "small town with a dark secret" show, that's also fine. However, make it with original characters, not the Archie ones.

However, make it with original characters, not the Archie ones. Yeah. Archie is'nt centered on drama and on dark secret. It's centered on a dorky ginger being friend with a dorky brunet, and having crushes both on a dorky blond and a fashion-y brunet who both have crushes on the dorky ginger. That's it, that's the plot and the thing it's centered about. Three people being dorky while another one is classy. Your classic slice-of-life\sitcom. If anything needs to be centered on drama and secrets about a murder... just make a whole new show with characters that only look and act like the characters from Archie but have different names. Compare with Doctor Who, which went from a sci-fi show centered about the characters exploring historical time period... to a sci-fi\drama show that also centers on drama and on a different dark-ish secret each series, BUT still mostly centered about the character exploring the past.

It looks to me that whomever made this show just wanted a brand name. So, for reasons which baffle me, they decided to tie this mess to Archie Comics.

For the same reason why the peeps who made Class decided to tie it to Doctor Who. Teen drama is about as far removed from sci-fi as it is from sitcom.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.
And Class was a hopeless failure. As for Rubbishdale, it's too soon to tell.

Propably a failure too. Some people might use scenes from the show to make remix\fancasting\fanvideo of other fandoms like books that did'nt get a live-action adaptation.

Next time someone wants to adapt Archie Comics, make it a sitcom.
I mean they made a sitcom for Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, in the 90's. It worked fine.

Yeah. Well, either pure sitcom, or maybe a sitcom with sci-fantasy elements? (like Futurama, Family Guy, South Park, or American Dad?)

Sounds better than this Twin Peaks rip-off they've put on.
